Edward Van Halen
Edward Van Halen was born on January 26, 1955 in Nijmegen, Netherlands and moved to Pasadena, California with his family at the age of seven. He was the son of a classical musician and he and his brother, future Van Halen drummer Alex Van Halen got started playing musical instruments early on. In their early teens, Eddie and Alex both started getting into rock music, and because of that, their parents bought Alex an electric guitar and Eddie a Drum Kit. However at the time, Eddie had a job on a paper route so whenever he was out delievering papers, Alex would play on his drums. Eventually, Alex got better on the drums than Eddie was and they decided to switch instruments. This would be a fatefull descion. Eddie took to the guitar quickly and would spend nights in his room with a six pack, drinking long necks and playing guitar while his brother was out partying. He was very influenced by Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix and Jimmy Page. Eventually him and his brother got together and formed a band with future Van Halen bassist Michael Anthony. At the time, they were renting a P.A. from the singer of another band, David Lee Roth. Then they decided it would be cheaper to have Dave in the band with them and Van Halen was formed. The band took off. Eddie's guitar playing was unique and nobody had heard it before. Before he knew it, Eddie was on the covers of Guitar Mags everywhere. His playing inspired the guitar oriented metal of the 1980's and it continues to inspire guitarists old and young for almost 30 years since.
